Dental Insurance Insurance for expats in Germany

Better dental care without high out-of-pocket costs.

Public health insurance in Germany only covers part of the cost of many dental treatments. Professional cleanings, high-quality fillings, crowns and implants require significant out-of-pocket payments. Dental insurance helps reduce these costs and gives you access to better treatment with predictable monthly premiums.

Frequently asked questions

Public health insurance only covers basic dental care and fixed subsidies. For most treatments such as professional dental cleanings, high-quality fillings, crowns or implants, a large part of the costs must be paid out of pocket.

The Basic plan focuses on preventive care such as professional dental cleanings, high quality plastic fillings and other basic dental services. It also includes orthodontic treatments for insured persons up to the age of 20. The Premium plan adds extended coverage for dental prostheses e.g. implants, bridges, crowns and inlays with reimbursement levels of 80%, 90% or 100% depending on the selected option.

Reimbursement depends on the plan you choose: Basic plan: 100% for defined preventive services. Premium plan: up to 80%, 90% or 100% of eligible costs that are not covered by public health insurance.

Yes. Professional dental cleanings are covered under both the Basic and Premium plan. This is especially important, as public health insurance usually covers little or none of these costs.

Existing dental conditions and missing teeth are generally not covered. When calculating your plan, you will be asked about missing teeth (excluding wisdom teeth). This information is required to ensure correct coverage and pricing.

Your insurance coverage starts on the contractually agreed date without any waiting periods.

Yes. Dental insurance can be taken out at any time, even if you have been living in Germany for several years, as long as you are insured under public health insurance.

You usually pay the dentist’s invoice first and then submit it to the insurance provider. Reimbursement is typically processed quickly and transferred directly to your bank account. We are happy to support you if you have any questions during the process.

Yes. You can calculate your personal dental plan and take out the insurance directly online in just a few steps. The process is paper-free, transparent and only takes a few minutes.
